Can I get American style drip coffee in Italy?

Last updated on April 1, 2026

In Italy, the standard coffee is espresso, which is quite different from the American style drip coffee you're used to. However, if you prefer a longer coffee, you can ask for an "Americano," which is made by adding hot water to a shot of espresso. This gives you a milder and larger drink that resembles drip coffee. While some cafes may not offer traditional drip coffee, most are happy to accommodate your preferences. Just keep in mind that ordering an Americano is the best way to get a similar experience to what you find back home!
