Revisiting Vicenza – one of our favorite hidden gems in Italy. Tucked away in the Veneto region, Vicenza is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, Venice and Verona – but it has a charm and character all its own. From the elegant Palladian architecture and fascinating (and wealthy!) history of the city, to nearby towns known for everything from chess and cherries to cheese and grappa. This area is full of delightful discoveries.
Summary
On our revisit to one of our favorite episodes, we hear from Elisabetta Faggiana, CEO of Unexpected Italy. Vicenza is a vibrant blend of history, craftsmanship, and culinary excellence. Known for its Palladian architecture, including La Rotonda, the inspiration for the White House. It’s also home to Italy’s oldest distillery, Nardini, and delicious local specialties like Baccalà alla Vicentina. The region thrives with artisans – coppersmiths, ceramicists, and paper-makers, while nearby towns add charm with unique traditions, world-class wines, and even a village devoted to chess.
